The isotopic climatic records in the AllerdBllingYounger Dryas and PostYounger Dryas events
نویسنده
چکیده
The combined isotopic records in the Greenland ice cores, in modern and ancient wood samples, and in marine foraminifera provide a climatic record for the Aller6d-B011ing-Younger Dryas and post-Younger Dryas Periods that is not compatible with the usual climatic interpretation of the 2H/1H ratios in the Greenland ice cores. For example, the Younger Dryas was not solely a North Atlantic event because evidence for it is also found in the 2H/1H record in wood samples which grew on the north slope of Alaska. The Younger Dryas was not necessarily a time of cooling over the ice caps. Moreover, it might have been a warming period in the temperate zones of the northern hemisphere continents. A better understanding of the climatic scenarios during these periods of time could be ascertained from additional isotopic data in plant remains which grew during these intervals and which cover a wider climatic range on the continents.

A biogenic-silica O record of climatic change during the last glacial–interglacial transition in southwestern Alaska
Despite growing evidence for environmental oscillations during the last glacial–interglacial transition from high latitude, terrestrial sites of the North Pacific rim, oxygen-isotopic records of these oscillations remain sparse. The lack of data is due partially to the paucity of lakes that contain carbonate sediment suitable for oxygen-isotopic analysis. We report here the first record of oxyg...

Introduction Paleoclimatics studies can respond the many uncertainties about past climate change; an issue that is being studied seriously in the world but less attention has been paid in Iran. The Late Quaternary can be considered as Holocene. Holocene, which spans over 11,000 years ago; In general, it is considered as a period with relatively warm and stable climatic conditions. However, rec...
متن کاملWould North American Paleoindians have Noticed Younger Dryas Age Climate Changes?
Paleoindian groups occupied North America throughout the Younger Dryas Chronozone. It is often assumed that cooling temperatures during this interval, and the impact these would have had on biotic communities, posed significant adaptive challenges to those groups. That assessment of the nature, severity and abruptness of Younger Dryas changes is largely based on ice core records from the Greenl...
متن کاملAbrupt climatic events during the last glacial-interglacial transition in Alaska
[1] Evidence is mounting that abrupt climatic shifts occurred during the last glacial-interglacial transition (LGIT) in the North Atlantic and other regions. However, few high-resolution climatic records of the LGIT exist from the high latitudes of the North Pacific rim. We analyzed lake sediments from southwestern Alaska for biogenic silica, organic carbon, organic nitrogen, diatom assemblages...
متن کاملRapid response of forested vegetation to multiple climatic oscillations during the last deglaciation in the northeastern United States
I present new isotopic and pollen results from a marl lake (White Lake) in the Mid-Atlantic region of USA to discuss the coupling of climate and vegetation changes. Oxygen isotopes of calcite from this site show multiple oscillations at millennial and centennial scales, including the Younger Dryas with 3‰ negative shifts in δO at 12.4–11.4 ka (1 ka=1000 cal yr BP) and three cold events of magni...
